The name diamond came from the word "invincible" in ancient Greek. They have been valued as gemstones. They are usually evaluate by “four Cs”: carat, clarity, color, and cut. Diamonds are the hardest known naturally-occurring mineral.


An estimated 49% of diamonds came from southern and central Africa although some are also came from India, Brazil, Canada, Russia and Australia. They are excavate from lamporoite volcanic pipes and kimberlite which can carry diamond crystals from deep of the Earth.


Diamond is the hardest natural material. The hardest diamonds in the world are from the New England. The hardness of diamonds give to its aptness as a gemstone. Because diamonds can only be scratched by other diamonds, it maintains its polish very well. It is suitable for daily wear because of its opposition to scratch - possibly preferred gem stone in an wedding rings or engagement ring which can be worn everyday.


Diamond has different colors. Green, violet, blue, red, purple black and translucent white. It also has brown and yellow but its very rare to find it. Carbonado or black diamonds are not black. but rather have numerous dark inclusions that provide the gem stone a dark appearance. Colored diamonds has structural defects that cause the coloration. Pure diamonds are transparent and colorless.
